What we know

We are a team of coaches who have spent years gathering information on human performance optimization. That means we know how to make you stronger, relieve your pain, gain confidence, and change the shape of your body.

We know how to win, we know how to heal, and we strive to live until 187.

What We Do

First, we teach you how to move, then, we teach you how to lift, train, and optimize performance in your life. Our focus is on technical proficiency, safety, and longevity. We meet each athlete where they are and help them meet their next goal whether that be competing in a meet or putting their own suitcase in the overhead compartment. Our program is a path toward knowing yourself better.

What We Have

Our space is large with 2 separate rooms for multiple groups, individualized space, and privacy. We provide a wide variety of speciality equipment that we use as tools to develop optimal performance as you learn to feel and move your body.

Forged Barbell not a gym, its a community.  It's not a fitness program, it's a program that uses fitness as a tool for self-realization.  The forging process uses heat, force, and pressure to mold molten metal into new form and function.  This is an old story.  This is how the fitness industry has taught us to treat, train, and care for our bodies.  It doesn't work.  It's not sustainable over a human lifespan. 

Our way is different.  Our way is about learning to feel and working with your body to remove barriers and grow, heal, and evolve into a relationship that feels great.  Bringing body, mind, and spirit into coherence and balance; rhythm and flow; with the earth, our community, and environment.  This is relationship work between your self, your body, and your life.  It's not about dominance, competition, or force.  It's about cooperation, communication, and love.  It's not a fight, it's a dance. 

Our system is simple.  Our program focuses on developing the 8 foundations of fitness, but it's not about the program.  It's about how the program teaches you to feel your body and understand your individual limitations and barriers.  Integrating conscious movement with nutrition, recovery, and fun generates vitality and energy.  Your body becomes a generator of life force you can carry into the rest of your life. 

Our coaches are awesome.  Our community is even better.  And our program works. 

A holistic movement practice isn't about the movement, its about the impact, and how that impact feels.  Sentience trumps mechanics.  And, mechanics matter.

about the gym

 Forged Barbell is by-appointment only. Our members have 24-hour access and our coaching staff is coaching. We offer 50 classes a week and welcome drop-ins, whether you are visiting Ann Arbor or looking for a new space for your movement practice. We are a small business without a front desk. And… we want to meet you! Please reach out via email to schedule a tour and free consult. This gives us an opportunity to discuss your individual goals, our offerings, and determine the best way to get started. Our gym is a 3rd space for our members, but not open to the public. We are committed to providing a safe environment that upholds our core values. We would love you to join us!
